Hand Colored Engraving of Two Coat of Arms after Catton and Chesham

A hand colored intaglio engraving of two coat of arms after C. Catton and F. Chesham. The first coat of arms depicts a shield with a gold cross flanked by a griffin and a hippogriff. There is a lion atop the helmet and the banner reads, ‘Pax in Bello’ which translates to ‘Peace in War.’ The second coat of arms depicts a shield with a rampant red lion on a gold field below three shells. The shield is flanked by a lion and an antelope. There is a goat atop a helmet and the banner reads ‘Che Sara Sara’ which translates to ‘Whatever will be will be.’ Beneath the coats of arms is written ‘Leeds’ and ‘Bedford’ respectively. The original engraving was created by C. Catton and F. Chesham. The print is double matted, under glass, and framed with a wire on the back for hanging the frame. This item matches 16LEX092-177.
