A Nichols & Stone Co. black Boster rocking chair. The chair features a stenciled fleur de lis crest rail, high spindle back, curved armrests, and turned legs and stretchers. The bottom of the chair is stamped “Nichols & Stone Co. Gardner Mass’. The Nichols & Stone company began in Westminster, Massachusetts in 1762 and moved to Gardner in the late 1850s. It is known for its Windsor chairs and Boston rockers. The company was bought in 2008 by the Audi family, but Nichols & Stone is still offered as a separate line of the L. & G. Stickley based in Manlius, NY.
