John Speed Original 1676 Map "The Province of Mounster"

The 1676 Basset and Chiswell edition of a hand colored wood-engraved map by well-listed English cartographer John Speed (1552-1629), titled The Province of Mounster from the artist’s series of depictions of Ireland. Small maps titled Corcke and Lymericke are inset to the piece’s corners. The map features bright, playful hand-coloring added at a much later date than the map’s original creation. The map is presented behind glass in a burled wooden frame with a hanging wire attached to the verso. More information about the artist can be found under Additional Information.

- crease down center from being folded in a book. Light discoloration across.
