Item Details
A handmade traditional ukhamba Zulu basket. This tightly woven South African basket exemplifies the idea of ‘art for life’s sake,’ displaying a beautifully executed triangle pattern while serving the function of holding liquids, keeping them cold through its water-tight coil design. The pores of the Ilala palm, the material used to weave the basket, swell once liquid is added, and the outside condensates, helping to keep the liquid cold. This basket was handmade in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa by Duduzile Mdanza and showcases the masculine triangle pattern in browns and black.
