Early 18th C. English Oak Coffer
Item Details
An early eighteenth-century English oak coffer. The coffer is of pegged and joined construction, and features an overhung beveled plank top. Geometric inlay in light and dark woods runs along the front of the square legs, across the front underneath the top, and between the three front panels, and along the bottom. The front of the coffer features three recessed panels with moldings, which are embellished with carved and applied squares (turned on the diagonal) to the left and right panels, with a carved heart to the center, narrower panel. An off-center keyhole is above the center panel, however the mechanism is missing. The wood has a rich antique patina throughout.
