Item Details

A silver plate bust of 7th century Mayan King Pacal by D’Argenta. This sculpture depicts the ancient Mayan ruler K’inich Janaab Pakal I, also known as the Sun Shield, Pakal the Great, and as assortment of other names. This silver plate sculpture is modeled after a stucco bust found inside the Temple of The Inscriptions of the tomb of Pacal, depicting the maize and floral motif headdress of the ruler, and his artificially deformed head, as was custom in Mayan civilization to signify elevated status. Marked ’D’Argenta’ on the bottom side, this bust is mounted on a squared and tapered wooden plinth for display.
