A Taos New Mexico Native American hollow log drum. Drum is built over log frames with walls thinned from the hollow center, hand-cut Elk hides over each end with rawhide lacing. The drum heads are made from cow, deer, elk or goat hides and each drum is crafted from cottonwood, aspen or pine over a year long period. The drum is hand scalloped, stretched and secured with rawhide lacing to the frame. Each completed drum has its own unique sound.
