Oaxacan Woodcarvings of Coyote and Artist Signed Lemur

A pair of vibrant handmade Oaxacan wood carvings of a coyote and a lemur. Oaxacan wood carvings are a form of Mexican folk art. Individual artists create hand crafted sculptures from copal wood. The pieces are both hand painted with vibrant colors including bright purple, orange, red and yellow. The coyote is depicted walking on all fours looking over its shoulder. The piece is unsigned. The lemur is shown looking up on its knees and elbows with its front paws in the air. The piece is signed ‘Eleazar Morales’. Morales is a master woodcarver from the village of San Antonio Arrazola. Condition

Both pieces have damage. The coyote’s tail is broken at the base, but could easily be fixed. Its ears are not secure. The front right leg was broken off, but repaired. The lemur has been broken and repaired at both wrists, the top of finger on the left hand missing, the tip of the left ear is chipped.
