John Guerin Signed Original Oil on Canvas Abstract Landscape

An original abstract oil on canvas painting by listed artist John William Guerin (1920-2006). The piece depicts a misty view in Ecuador and is rendered with translucent layers of green, blue and purple tones, in the appearance of a mountain range receding into the background. The piece is signed by the artist in the lower right corner, ‘Guerin ,83’. The painting is presented in a thin gold tone frame without glass. Guerin studied art at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Art Students League in New York, the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center, and at Escuela Bellas Artes in San Miguel, Mexico. He was both a painter and an educator and began his teaching career at the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts from 1950-1952. He began his career at the The University of Texas at Austin in 1953, teaching painting, drawing, design, and composition. He held this position until 1980, when he retired as professor emeritus. This piece was painted in 1983 as a personal gift.
