A 1999 two-piece purple seaform blown glass art glass sculpture titled “Imperial Iris Persian Set” by listed artist, Dale Chihuly (born 1941). One of the glass pieces is folded with a scalloped rim and the other piece is round with a ribbed body and a small hole at the top. The bodies of these blown glass pieces feature beautiful lines of hues of purple with a lime green lip. Signed to the underside. Dale Patrick Chihuly was born in Tacoma, Washington and currently works and lives within the same state. He found an interest in glass while studying interior design and upon graduating in 1965 attended the first glass program in the country at the University of Wisconsin. He continued his studies, established a glass program and taught for more than ten years at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). It was in the late 1960s while studying at the Veni glass factory in Venice, Italy through a Fulbright Fellowship that Chihuly observed the team approach to blowing glass; a method that the artist still practices. Noted accomplishments are many and include: cofounded the Pilchuck Glass School in Washington State in 1971; works that are included in over 200 museum collections worldwide; numerous honors and awards that include, but are not limited to, twelve honorary doctorates and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts; created more than a dozen well-known series of works; and many more.
