Pair of Original Lyman Byxbe Etchings
Item Details
A pair of original Lyman Byxbe etchings. Lyman Byxbe (American, 1886-1980) was a self-taught artist who studied copperplate etching under an architect. In 1938, after becoming enamored with Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, Byxbe obtained a summer studio in Estes Park where he sketched scenes of the area, particularly Rocky Mountain National Park, for many years, producing hundreds of etchings, prints, and cards. His work is owned and exhibited by the National Gallery of Arts, and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., the Library of Congress, at Washington, D.C., and others. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Etchers, and the Miniature Print Society of Kansas City (Missouri.) The two original etchings are, First Glimpse of Longs [Peak], and Longs [Peak] in Autumn. The etchings are not dated, but are prior to 1980. Both are presented with white mats under glass in simple oak wood frames and are signed by the artist to the lower right, with the titles of the works to the lower left.
