Pair of Reproduction Dan Tribal Style Masks

A pair of artist reproduced Dan Tribal masks. Composed of dark stained wood, the round mask features long rectangular eyes circled by cowrie shells, a long and wide protruding nose and a open laughing mouth. The mask is adorned with seed beads in tones of yellow, teal and green. Decorative cowrie shells are place to the forehead and smile lines. This domed mask is ready to hang with a hook to the back. A horned and footed mask is composed of dark stained wood, decorated with seed beads, cowrie shells and inset wooden accents. The horned mask features rectangular eyed surrounded by beads, a long and wide nose adorned with beads and a protruding mouth. Triangular wooden inset accents are placed to the face and knees. Ribbed shells embellish the forehead. The Dan tribe occupied the western area of Cote d’Ivoire and into Liberia. Famed for festivals, decorative Dan masks were typically used for celebrations and entertainment events.

- horned mask: leg on left was broken off and repaired, horn on right is missing tip.
