Listed Artist Joseph Boulton "White Mountain Lion" Statue

An alabaster sculpture titled White Cougar by listed artist Joseph Boulton (1896 – 1981). The 1960s sculpture depicts a white mountain lion perched on a jagged rock. The animal is poised to attack with its ears back, eyes fixed and muscles tense. The work is signed to the back. The statue includes a red felt layer to the base. Boulton was raised in Fort Worth, TX. He became interested in modelling and building from working with his father who was a carpenter. Boulton studied in New York at the National Academy of Design, beginning in 1915. One of his teachers was sculptor Herman Atkins MacNeil.
