Item Details
An antique oil on canvas painting. This beautiful work depicts the Virgin Mary in the center of the composition. She is depicted standing atop a sphere and holding a serpent down with her foot. An angel is present to her lower right and looks up to the sky. Angels flank her glowing halo of light to the top of work. This striking religious piece is unsigned. It is set in a giltwood frame with a fillet. The cartouche at the base reading ‘Pulchritudinem candoris ejus admirabitur oculus,’ or ‘what eye but is captivated by its pale beauty,’ a quote from the book of Sirach. A hook on is present to the verso for hanging.
Condition
Good- wear consistent with age. Some cracking to paint.
