F.A. Bridgman Original Large Still Life Oil Painting
Item Details
An F.A. Bridgman original still life oil painting. Frederick Arthur Bridgman (1847-1928) was a American painter who would go on to become famous for his North African Orientalist scenes. Originally from Alabama, his family relocated to New York City where as a youth he worked as a engraver and studied at the Art Schools of Brooklyn and the National Academy of Design before moving to France. While in Paris Bridgman studied with academic painter Jean-Leon Gerome. This beautiful flower painting is done with a style similar to late 17th century Dutch painters, with the darkened background and lively asymmetric flower arrangements. Pale pink roses, red and white tulips and purple irises make up most of this arrangement. The flowers are rendered with precise detail, mimicking nature all the way down to the small ants dotting the petals. The artist’s signature can be found at the bottom right corner.
Condition
