Colonel Ed McMahon's Naval Aviator Insignia and Wings
Item Details
A Naval Aviator insignia and wings worn by Colonial Ed McMahon. Ed was a flight pilot for the Marines during 1941 – 1966. The gold-toned metal badge was designed by John H. Towers during 1917. The pin depicts a single fouled anchor, under thirteen-striped shield flanked by a pair of eagle wings. The badge was awarded to individuals who served in the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard and qualified as naval aviators. Ed’s wife, Pam McMahon quotes him as saying ‘I want to be remembered as a good entertainer and a great Marine.’
