Circa 1882 Bentwood Butter Churn

Item Details

An antique six gallon bentwood churn made by the M. Brown & Company of Wapakoneta, Ohio and patented on August 7, 1877 by Michael Brown, Francis McFarland and Joseph Brown. The U-shape of the churn is unique to this maker and is constructed from wood with cast iron gears. The body of the churn has been painted fire engine red and is not original to the piece. The interior of churn includes four wooden paddles designed to pull the cream off the end walls and throw it toward the center of the churn box.

Condition

Wooden lid has burn marking from a clothing iron. Red paint is not original to piece.
