An oil on canvas painting by D. Putnam Brinley. The painting is titled Dogwood Court, features an Impressionist-like landscape of a grove of trees, rendered in soft, pastel colors. The artist’s signature appears to the lower right, and the painting is presented in a simple, gold-tone wood frame. Daniel Putnam Brinley (1879-1963) was an American muralist and painter from Rhode Island, who studied at the Art Students League of New York in the early 1900s. He exhibited his work at Alfred Stieglitz’s gallery, helped organize the 1913 Armory Show, and was a founding member of the Association of American Painters and Sculptors. He was also a member of the Silvermine Guild of Artists in 1922. Among his notable works are the maps he created for the Liberty Memorial in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Great Terrestrial Globe he created for the lobby of the Daily News Building in New York, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal of Honor of the Architectural League of New York.
