Qing Dynasty Chinese Finely Carved Ivory Brush Holder

Item Details

A late 19th century, Qing dynasty Chinese carved ivory brush holder, deeply carved and pierced with flowering plants and large blossoms, as well as lingzhi, a particularly spectacular chrysanthemum, among them. The piece is further enhanced with carvings of cranes in the air and perched on the fir trees throughout, all having delicately carved feathers. The piece’s fulcrum being a standing phoenix with head turned to the side in the front register, the base carved with a meander motif.
