Pair of Robert Furber "12 Months of Flowers" Offset Lithographs

Item Details

A pair of vintage offset lithographs of engravings titled March and August from British horticulturalist Robert Furber’s (1674-1756) highly collectible 1730 book Twelve Months of Flowers, also known as the Wythe House Floral Prints. The original plates were engravings of paintings by Flemish painter Pieter Casteels (1684-1749), and were engraved by Henry Fletcher (1710-1750). The print depicts a large bouquet of flowers, each of which are numbered in small black script. Corresponding numbers at the base of the image identify each flower. The title is printed within a small ornate wreath in the bottom margin as well. The prints are matted in beige with several hand-drawn French lines and are presented behind glass in matching gold-toned wooden frames. Wires are attached to the verso of each for hanging.
