Kay Muir Original Oil on Canvas "Two Owls and a Girl"
Item Details
An original mid-century oil on canvas painting by well-loved Cincinnati artist Kay Muir (1913-2008), titled Two Owls and a Girl. The abstracted painting shows two large white and gray owls with piercing yellow eyes resting on tall poles. In the foreground, the simple form of a long-haired girl sits with her head hung low. The painting is completed in tasteful shades of white, gray, and yellow with subtle brighter accents. The emotive and mysterious painting is signed in green paint to the lower left, and again on the verso. It is presented in a wooden slat frame with silver-toned metallic trim. A wire is attached to the verso for hanging. Muir studied at the University of Michigan and then the Art Academy of Cincinnati, where she worked with local legends such as Paul Childlaw. Muir’s work is part of the permanent collections of the Art Academy of Cincinnati and the Dayton Art Institute. More information about the artist can be found under Related Links.
