A set of twenty four chromolithograph prints by Winold Reiss in the Blackfeet Indians of Glacier National Park series. Published by Great Northern Railway Co, St. Paul Minnesota in 1940 (first series), the series features Native American portraits in graphic style with vivid coloration. A listing of prints include ‘Turtle and His Young Son’, ‘Big Face Chief’, ‘Two Guns’, ‘Arrow Top’, ‘Jim Blood’, ‘Buffalo Body’, ‘Clears Up’, ‘Double Steel and Two Cutter’, ‘Juniper Buffalo Bull and Little Young Man’, ‘Lazy Boy’, ‘Long Time Pipe Woman’, ‘Many Horses, Little Rosebush and Baby’, ‘Morning Bird’, ‘Morning Gun’, ‘Night Shoots’, ‘Not Real Bear Woman’, ‘Only Child’, ‘Little Plume’, ‘Plume’, ‘Scalping Woman’, ‘Short Man’, ‘Snow Bird – In Carrier’, ‘Sopeia and Mameia’ and ‘Singing in the Clouds.’ Also includes a historical sketch of the Blackfeet Indian tribe and the original portfolio sleeve with wonderful graphics in red and blue on a tan field. German born artist Winold Reiss (1886-1953) is most well-known as the creator of the fourteen large glass tile murals in Cincinnati Union Terminal beginning in 1933.

Condition

to Fair – the prints have mild toning and some staining to borders. Some have thumb tack holes to top margin. The “Turtle and His Young Son” print is on a lighter weight paper.
