Erté "Spring Opening" Signed Serigraph

Item Details

A signed ‘Spring Opening’ Serigraph by Erté . The serigraph, from the ‘The Twenties Remembered Again’ suite, depicts the silhouette of a woman of the period wearing a hat and dress with diaphanous sleeves and narrow body. The figure is pulling back drapes and we view her from behind, stepping into a riotously colored marbled patterned room in tones of lapis, orange, honey and violet. The piece is signed in the lower right corner and embossed ‘1978 Circle Fine Art Corp’ and numbered 39 of 300. The serigraph is framed under glass in an antiqued carved silver wood frame and a black mat with a silver filet. This lot coordinates with 16BOS007-001 and 16BOS007-003.

Erté (Russian 1892 – 1990) was born Roman Petrovich Tyrtov, to a distinguished military family in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1910 he would move to Paris and change his name to avoid embarrassing his family so he could work as an artist. Erté would go onto an illustrious career as a costume, set designer, artist and illustrator working on The Follies Bergère, The Ziegfeld Follies and for publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, Ladies Home Journal, Cosmopolitan and Vogue.
