A signed limited edition offset lithograph reproduction of a 1900 painting by Cincinnati artist Paul Blackwell, titled Early Days on the Canal. A note attached to the verso reads, ‘View of the Miami and Erie Canal, a long stretch of water roughly following the path of the Parkway, looking east across Vine Street, Walnut, and Main to Sycamore.’ This canal was constructed beginning in 1825 to connect Cincinnati to Lake Erie. This view shows the street that is now known as Central Parkway, looking east towards Mt. Adams. Several figures and stagecoaches rolling along the canal’s banks. The print is signed in-plate to the lower right and is signed and numbered 190/4000 in pen. It is matted in tan and presented behind glass in a thin wooden frame with gold-toned trim. A wire is attached to the piece’s verso for hanging.
Condition
-light scratching across the frame. The paper is slightly warped behind matting.
