1914 World War I German Iron Cross Medal and Ribbon

Item Details

A World War I era 1914 German Iron Cross medal with 2nd class ribbon. The Iron Cross would be given to soldiers with valor, heroism, and leadership. The medal features ‘FW’ above oak leave emblem and ‘1813’ to commemorate the first introduction of the Iron Cross under King Frederick Wilhelm III in the nineteenth century. The front side of the medal features a crown emblem above ‘W’ and ‘1914,’ commemorating then-leader Wilhelm II. The ribbon is black with two thin white stripes, an homage to Prussian colors.

Condition

- wear and use to ribbon and medal. Condition consistent with age and use. The medal is tarnished. A bobby pin is attached to the joint of the ribbon.
