Two Early To Mid 1800s Kentucky Long Rifles
Item Details
A pair of pre-1854 Kentucky Long Rifles, also known as black powder percussion rifles. Rifle number one has curly maple stock and butt with engraved yellow brass butt and trigger guards. The ramrod is present. The gun lock is engraved with ‘T. Davidson & Co’. T. Davidson stands for Tyler Davidson, a large Cincinnati, Ohio’s hardware company that was in business from 1834 and 1866. Written accounts suggest the Tyler Davidson Company made rifle locks between 1850-1854. Rifle number two has a more primitive looking butt and stock of curly maple. This rifle is completely unmarked, as most of the Kentucky long rifles were made by local blacksmiths and were not marked. Items are untested. Interestingly, this is the same Tyler Davidson that the large fountain in downtown Cincinnati is named after.

Both rifles have rust. Older more primitive rifle has cracks to stock, scratches, and is missing ram rod.
