Anthony de Brie Oil Painting of Horse
Item Details
An antique original oil painting on canvas by well-listed English painter Anthony de Brie (1854-1921), dated 1903. The image depicts the famous thoroughbred stallion named ‘Dalesman,’ standing before his feeding trough in his stall. The composition is a traditional layout of an early 20th-century horse portrait. It is a largely dark painting, the straw on the stall floor, and the twinkle in the stallion’s eye being some of the only illuminating components of the composition. Artist’s signature and date are signed in paint to the lower left. This stunning painting is mounted in a beveled wood frame coated in cast gesso, with a gilt finish.
Condition
- canvas has been relined. Notable accretion on painting surface. Craquelure throughout painting surface, more noticeable along top and bottom edges. Painting is not mounted securely within frame. Finish of frame is notably damaged – cracked and chipped throughout.
