English Chelsea Pottery Owl Plate

A British Modernist pottery plate by Chelsea Pottery. The small dish is an enameled image of a feisty owl, in yellows, green, and tawny amber. It has horn-like feather at the top of the head and large eyes, with feather detail. The dish is made of a red stoneware clay and was hand thrown. The plate is signed illegibly to the front and tagged ‘Chelsea Pottery, Hand Made in England’ to the reverse, with the name ‘C.F. Ishimoto’ written in black on the tag, possibly the artist’s name. The piece is signed in clay to the underside, ‘Chelsea Pottery.’ Painted by Joyce Morgan.
