Hand Painted Chinese Porcelain Tile

A hand painted Chinese porcelain tile. The tile has a large rectangular shape and is beautifully hand painted with a warrior in a brilliant paprika-colored robe walking or standing on a roiling, turbulent sea. He carries a rattan shield and axe, and is stepping on a broken bamboo branch, festtoned with golden ribbons. The detail to the face, with bushy beard and moustache, are very fine, with color and detail to the eyes featured. The waves forms are very lightly glazed in a delicate blue, with wave forms and raised, textured, applied dots as ‘seafoam.’ The warrior’s robe has a hand painted gold circular symbol and detail stamped overall. There is a series of Chinese characters hand painted to the upper left corner. The reverse of the tile is suitable textured for application in a tile installation. Otherwise unmarked. The piece comes with a black painted, wood display stand.

Condition

Some very minor loss of gold enamel paint.
