A pair of original Russell May oil paintings. May (1921-1990) was born in Floyd County, Kentucky. He is best-known for his Appalachian landscapes and folk building scenes. May started as a business man running a sign making shop. He painted well-known advertisements on barns across Kentucky and in 1968 his wife urged him to paint as a career. In 1972, he went to Austria to study with German artist Gerhard Nesvadba. This pairing includes an original painting on canvas depicting a wooded path in Autumn and an original painting on a ceramic plate depicting a footbridge crossing a stream. Both pieces are signed R. May and the canvas has been matted and placed in a painted wooden frame.
Condition
Parts of the matting has been stained.
