Antique Crucifixion Diorama

Item Details

An antique crucifixion diorama. These religious icons were produced in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, depicting the crucifixion of Jesus. The engraved image in the back of the diorama shows Mary the mother of Jesus and a man weeping at the cross. The icon is framed under glass in oak. The frame is decorated with gesso embossing of leaves, vines and cut branches and painted silver. A wire hanger is on the back.

Condition

The picture in the background is faded. Fabric inside is torn. Gesso on the frame is chipped off in places. Wire hanger on the back has been replaced. The back of the piece is loose and may need some reconditioning.
