Antique Walnut Writing Lap Desk
Item Details
An antique 19th century walnut lap desk, featuring a slanted writing service with original red baize over two compartments. One section over a folio compartment for papers the other with a removable six compartment tray. The tray has dovetailed corners and when removed reveals a secret compartment. At the top of the slanted writing service are three compartments for inkwells as well as a curved pen tray. When pressure is applied to one end of the tray it tilts up revealing another secret compartment. The box has brass hinges and a lock.
Condition
The original red baize is worn on both pieces. Both of the writing surfaces are missing their brass hinges. Cracks and areas of separation to top. Key is also missing. Wear consistent with age and use.
Dimensions
Measurements given are for the closed box. When opened the box measures 15.25" X 4.5" X 22.5".
