"The Great American Eagle" Sterling Sculpture by Gilroy Roberts

A sterling silver sculpture of ‘The Great American Eagle’ by Gilroy Roberts. The sculpture depicts a bald eagle with wings spread and talons clutching a rugged rock. The eagle stands upon a simple black pediment with a brass plaque on back. The piece is marked R75 to tail feathers, numbered ‘53/200’, and marked sterling on the back. Total silver weight approximately 241 ozt. Gilroy Roberts (American, 1905-1992) was a renown sculpture and gemstone carver. He is remembered primarily for serving as the ninth chief engraver for the US Treasury and, for designing the obverse of the Kennedy half dollar coin.
Condition
Eagle has come loose from pediment.
