A vintage butter yellow enamelware cooking pot with lid. The pot is the size of a dutch oven. Enameling is a coating of porcelain on a metal surface. The practice began in Germany in the 1760s to keep the metallic taste from affecting the food. Use of enamelware came to the Americas in the 1850s and became decorative as well as useful.
