Kampilan Filipino Steel Sword
Item Details
A Kampilan Filipino steel sword. This sword dates at least to the year 1918 if not earlier. It was retrieved from the Philippines by a U.S. soldier during World War II. Sword hilt, guard, and handle are ornately carved wood and a small rope is wrapped around the handle with a black cloth. There is small metal token in the sword handle which reads ‘United States Of America 1918.’ Kampilan swords have their origin in the Philippine Archipelago. The bifurcated hilt is believed to represent a mythical creature with its mouth opened. They are known for their characteristic single edged tapered blade.
Condition
The condition is consistent with age and use. This sword has some rusting on the blade. The wooden handle is in good condition.
