Original Moses Hyman Etching "The Sage"

An original vintage 1937 etching on paper by listed American illustrator and printer Moses Hyman, titled The Sage. Hyman’s popularity reached a peak in the 1880-90s when his pen and ink portraits of the personalities of the day were seen in newspapers across the eastern United States. This wispy image is a portrait of an old man. He is seated, and wears a rounded tight hat. He has a long white beard, and gazes intently towards the viewer; he exudes a sense of wisdom and calmness. The print is titled, signed, and dated in pencil in the lower margin. A sticker on the verso gives more information about the artist and claims that this print is ‘limited edition,’ though the print is not numbered and that information can not be confirmed in Hyman’s records. The print is matted in white and presented behind glass in a thin wooden frame with gilt trim. A wire is attached to the verso for hanging.
