"Compulsion" Original Acrylic on Canvas by Anton Weiss

An original acrylic painting titled ‘Compulsion’ by renowned Abstract Expressionist painter Anton Weiss (American and Yugoslavian, b. 1936). This painting is acrylic on canvas features gray, yellow, beige, brown, red, and white abstract forms. The painting is 48′×68′ and is housed in a black wooden frame with a gold-tone metallic veneer.

Anton Weiss is an Abstract Expressionist painter who was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia of Austria in 1936. Weiss emigrated to Tennessee in 1951 after living through the tragedies of World War II and two years in a Russian concentration camp, from which he escaped at age 13. Weiss studied at Watkins College in Nashville and moved to New York city in 1956 where he studied under Hans Hoffman at the prestigious Art Students League. Weiss returned to Nashville in 1960 where he was Director of Art at the Watkins Institute (1975-1980). His work is featured in many prominent collections such as the Tennessee State Museum in Nashville, and the Canadian National Railroad Museum in Montreal, Quebec, and is represented by L Ross Gallery, Leiper’s Creek Gallery, and Bennett Galleries Nashville.
