1900 Tonnesen Sisters Photograph
Item Details
Charming 1900 Tonnesen Sisters framed photograph of a young Victorian mother and her tow-headed daughter gazing into the cradle of a newborn baby. The photograph has a wonderful evocative aura of sweetness and love, with a gauzy background treatment featuring a leaded window, hydrangea arrangement and Persian rug. Beatrice Tonnesen was a trend-setting woman in the late 1800’s in print photography and advertising, having been one of the first to use live models in her work. Her earliest works are signed ‘Tonnesen Sisters’ and much of her later work is unsigned. This lovely piece is mounted to a dark board and housed in a black frame with ornate brass corners. Marked ‘A.L. Swift, Chicago’ to the right corner, and ‘Copyright 1900 by Tonnesen Sisters’ to the lower left.
