Original Oil on Linen by Listed Scottish Artist Alexander Frew
Item Details
An original oil on linen by listed Scottish Artist Alexander Frew (1863–1908). Alexander Frew exhibited at the Royal Academy in London between 1883 to 1905. His artwork centered on landscape and marine subjects. In this painting we feel as if we are on a rocky beach, watching the waves, and hearing the seagulls overhead. On the horizon is a steamer, its smoke trailing in the sky, and a sailboat tacking into the wind, its sail full. The canvas is signed by the artist in the lower left Alex Frew 1900. The canvas is mounted in a vintage frame, with an exterior built up of gesso. The framing has brownish staining with an aged, gold brushed accent. A wire hanger is fixed to the back. There are no markings to the back of the linen canvas.
