A Navajo ritual dance sand painting by Gary Lee Blue Horse. It features four images of Native dancers wearing ritual dress associated with a particular being. Starting from the right, there is the Kachina Whipper, the Deer Kachina, the Eagle Kachina, and the Salaka Kachina. A Kachina is an ancestral spirit that is worshiped by Native peoples. The piece is triple matted with carved accents and set in a robust wooden frame with no glass. The reverse carries labels with information about the original medicinal purpose of Navajo sand painting, as well as identifies the dancers.
Condition
The frame has some minor chipping and the paper backing is ripped.
