Regal Grasshopper Clock

A regal grasshopper clock and display case. The clock itself uses a grasshopper escapement. The clock uses double battons that move as the escapement moves around the wheel and uses a chain fusee movement. The piece used hand blued steel and multiple jewels. The dial is made of porcelain and has black Roman numerals and uses hands of hand blued steel. The clock has a 24k gold plated medallion on the back that is in memory to the inventor John Harrison. One the base there is a number stating it is number 3 of 20. The clock display case is made of glass and 24k gold plate and sits on a cherry stand that has two compartments for storage. The case itself is traditional in nature and below the top is an acanthus leaf accent that adds visual interest. The case stands on ogee bracket feet. John Harrison(1693-1776) was a clockmaker and carpenter in England. He was an inventor of the grasshopper escapement and marine chronometer.
