Frank Duveneck Original "The Chess Players" Oil Painting
Item Details
An original oil painting The Chess Players by the highly esteemed American Impressionist Frank Duveneck (Ohio, 1848-1919). This distinctive oil on canvas painting depicts a smiling stylish woman playing chess with a red-robed cardinal or possibly an older woman. Frank Duveneck is considered a portrait and figure painter, sculptor and art teacher, with work in many extensive collections. He studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he became known for his vigorous brushwork and strong contrasts reminiscent of European Masters, imparting an almost living presence in each painting. His later return to Cincinnati, Ohio developed a more conservative style, attracting and influencing many young artists. Art is signed on the lower right ‘F. Duveneck, Munich, 1873.’ This painting is mounted in a painted gold tone wood frame, by Park Avenue Gallery, Mt. Krisco, New York, and has been appraised by Inland Marine Fine Arts.
