Circa 1850 Civil War Tower British Enfield Musket

Item Details

This is a Civil War British pattern smoothbore musket, made somewhere in the 1850s by Tower British Enfield and was sold and imported to the Confederate army during the Civil War. This model was believed to be supplied with a bayonet. Many parts of this musket are still original, such as many of the brass pieces. However, unfortunately, through the years it has been modified. It has been soldered shut and several parts of the musket are missing. This musket was, at one point, modified to become a wall hanging and was hand carved and the addition of the silver decorations, into the carvings, were added. This musket has always remained with a second Civil War musket owned by the great-grandfather of our client’s uncle. They are very fortunate to possess a photo of the great-grandfather in his uniform, holding his musket. The story of how this musket came to be modified into a wall hanging is unknown. The name ‘Tower’ can be seen on the side. Additional defining marks may have been removed during modification. Suggest preview.
