Item Details
An original Aesthetic Movement, turn of the century oil painting on leather hide. It features the image of an attractive young woman tenderly admiring tree blossoms. She is painted atop an intricately embossed gold leaf backdrop. This unusual work of art was most likely removed from a decorative screen and later stretched to be framed. An illegible signature is written to the verso on the lower stretcher bar, as well as a torn gallery label to the top stretcher bar. Legible text to the gallery label reads, ‘Mir’. Mir iskusstva was a Russian symbolist journal promoting the Aesthetic movement at the end of the 19th century.
