Early 19th Century Jane Stuart Portrait

An original early 19th century portrait painting thought to be of First Lady Martha Washington, circa 1820, attributed to highly regarded American portrait painter, Jane Stuart (1812 – 1888). Jane, daughter of famed painter Gilbert Stuart, carried on her father’s portrait profession after his death. This particular portrait depicts a seated Martha adorned in a black lace shaw held together by a ruby brooch against a dark umber backdrop. A gallery identification card is also included with the painting. This historic work of art is presented in an ornate frame with a distressed gilt finish.
Condition
The condition is consistent with age. It features heavy craquelure throughout with a series of small chips to the paints surface.
