A vintage happy Buddha figure in high-fired porcelain. The charming figure depicts a seated, laughing Buddha in his yellow and pink monk’s robes, which are wonderfully painted with green and black medallions and stylized floral elements; one hand holds his prayer beads, the other hand serenely on one knee. His expression is full of mirth and joy, his mouth open with laughter. A rose-colored lotus flower adorns his chest. Five joyful, smiling children climb over him, in brightly colored robes of pink, green, orange, and yellow. There are touches of gold enamel paint dotted on the figure. The happy Buddha is also called ‘Buddha of Happiness,’ or ‘Matreiya.’ It is the ultimate symbol of joy, success, abundance and prosperity, and is believed to bring health and luck to descendants.

Condition

Slightly aged; wear is consistent with age.
