Rare 1785 Nova Constellatio Coin

Item Details

A rare 1785 Nova Constellatio coin, US copper currency. The pointed rays and style of the eye on the obverse identify this coin as either a Crosby 4-C or 4-D mint, both sought after by numismatists today. These coins were minted in 1793, 1785 and 1786. The reverse of the coin reads, ‘LIBERTAS ET JUSTITIA’ (liberty and justice), with the closed wreath and W, the obverse depicts the abovementioned rays, stamped ‘NOVA CONSTELLATIO’ and a starburst with 13 stars representing the original colonies. Condition

Some wear on the lettering, but still readable. A dark patina all over the coin. Encased in plastic.
