Antique Mother of Pearl Handle Flatware

Item Details

A set of fourteen pieces of antique mother of pearl handle flatware with sterling ferrules. The group includes six dessert knives and six four-tine forks with acanthus and filigree designs about each ferrule. Each knife is marked ‘Meriden Cutlery Co., 1885, 12’ at the blade. Meriden specialized in silver and silver plate flatware and began in Connecticut around 1834. The other two pieces of this group are a pearl handle berry spoon, with maker’s mark to the back of its neck, and a matching pearl handle butter knife. Each of these pieces features simple braid and band designs about the ferrule. The set also includes a compartmentalized cloth storage bag.
