An original oil painting titled Landscape with a horse drawn wagon on a country road by Cincinnati born artist Thomas Corwin Lindsay (American 1839-1907). A well known painter of portraits, landscapes and animals, Lindsay is known to capture the spirit of his subject, demonstrating a natural talent even in his early years. With little formal training he traveled and sketched eastern Pennsylvania and the White Mountains of New Hampshire, and later traveled to Europe to study in Düsseldorf and Paris. His later work is frequently defined as tranquil, filled with pastoral landscape scenes. This oil painting on canvas depicts the beginning of autumn with a horse drawn wagon traveling across a flat plain. Although Lindsay uses very textural strokes, his painting style appears light. This beautiful painting is signed on the lower right T.C.L, and is mounted in an ornate gilt frame, with an exterior edge in a heavy relief foliate pattern. An art light has been attached to the top of the frame, and a switch is mounted on the right edge of the frame.
