1896 Gravure Print by William Strutt

An antique gravure print after a work titled A Little Child Shall Lead Them by William Strutt from 1896. Strutt (1825-1917) created this work in 1896 based on a biblical quotation from the book of Isaiah. He created an oil painting, and the Franz Hanfstaengl printers mass produced the work in sepia tones. The print bears this information on the front: ‘Copyright 1896, Printed in Munich William Strutt, pinac 9388, Gravure Hanfstaengl Franz Hanfstaengl, Minchen, London & New York’. Gravure, or rotogravure, is a type of print made by using a rotary printing press. Gravure is a form of intaglio printing. See the link provided for more information on William Strutt.

Condition

The paper is discolored with age. The frame is old, missing finish and has some scratches.
